Postgraduate funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the UK's main government agency for funding postgraduate research and training in engineering and the physical sciences.

The EPSRC does not give money directly to students for postgraduate study (PhDs and masters) but funds universities through training grants. These training grants include funding for fees and stipends (maintenance payments for students). Opportunities for funding include:

  • Doctoral Training Accounts
  • Engineering Doctorates - four-year postgraduate awards working closely with industry-centres
  • Industrial CASE (Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering) - three-and-a-half year postgraduate awards allocated to companies to enable them to take the lead in defining and organising projects with an academic partner of their choice.

How to apply for Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council funding for a masters or PhD

Potential postgraduate students looking for funding should contact universities directly. Individual universities will also have their own eligibility criteria.
