Learn the analysis and design skills needed to create successful structures in challenging environments; this is the largest academic concrete research centre in the UK; we have international-level expertise in cement chemistry, aggregate science, binder technology, concrete durability, alternative concrete materials, structural performance and design, earthquake and nuclear reactor design and finite element analysis.
Entry requirements
Minimum 2.1 Honours degree (BEng, MEng, BSc) in civil or structural engineering or other appropriate engineering or science subject; we’ll consider applications for any course if appropriate professional qualifications and work experience are held, but a strong background in the areas covered on the course is required; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6 in each component), or a TOEFL score of 575 with TWE 4.5 (paper-based test), or 232 in CBT with WTE 4.5, or TOEFL iBT score of 90–91.
Course modules
Core modules: dissertation planning and paper presentation; linear systems and structural analysis; structural design; computational structural analysis; vibration engineering; introduction to earthquake engineering; advanced concrete design; sustainable concrete technology; FRP composites in construction; durability and repair of concrete structures; design project; dissertation.
