Summary Information
The course offers the chance to explore the different shapes that journalism is taking online, with an emphasis on enterprise, community, and experimentation alongside core skills in news gathering and production; students are taught UK media law and ethics, and undertake an ongoing consultancy-style relationship with a news organisation amounting to at least 15 days of work; the course involves shaping the future of news, exploring the things that have been done with news online and working with major news organisations to identify and address some of the central issues facing journalism today.
Entry requirements
Proven experience in journalism or media production; all applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS level 6.5; evidence of passion for new forms of journalism; strong and inquiring mind; tendency not to take no for an answer.
Course modules
The taught postgraduate phase of the course comprises modules in enterprise; news gathering and production; experimentation; the Master’s component entails a substantial piece of independent production and study; there is no dissertation.
