Summary Information

This course follows the 1st 2 semesters of core courses, already established within our existing MBA programmes; students then specialise in areas of Islamic Finance by following an intensive summer school, undertaking the modules: principles of Islamic finance; different models of Islamic banking; and business in the Islamic world; the course is aimed at helping to equip students for a career which involves working within an environment of Islamic finance and banking, including: providing an introduction to the main principles of Islamic economics, in particular the theory and practice of Islamic finance and banking; to briefly relate the concepts of Islamic economics to the recent history of financial institutions within an international context; to provide an introduction to the different models of Islamic banking and shari’ah compliant financial services; to provide a contextual perspective on Islamic banking within the historical creation and development of dedicated Islamic banks and financial services in the past 50 years; to introduce to students the issues and challenges of business within the context of Muslim countries; to provide an overview of cross cultural challenges of conducting business between Muslim and non-Muslim organisations; to explore the economic issues of risk, speculation and capital within specifically Islamic religious perspectives

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement is a good 1st degree (equivalent to a British 2nd class Honours degree) or above in any discipline; evidence of English language proficiency is also required; IELTS Band 7.0 or above and 6.
