Within the University's collegiate structure the College of Health and Behavioural Sciences comprises the Schools of Psychology, Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, Healthcare Sciences and the Institute of Medical and Social Care Research (IMSCaR is research institute).
The College structure supports world-class cross-discipline collaborative research which feeds directly into all programmes of study delivered by the Schools. This means that students have the opportunity to study with academics who are at the cutting edge of their academic disciplines.
The School of Psychology at Bangor is one of the largest the in the entire country with over 1000 students, and offers modern degree programmes that are fully BPS accredited. The School also excels in terms of research output, coming 7th (of 75+) in the UK in terms of Research Power based on the results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, a combination of quality and quantity that is unique amongst UK Psychology departments.
The School of Healthcare Sciences is nationally known for its provision of high quality undergraduate academic education leading to professional registration for healthcare professionals in nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, radiography and operating department practice.
The School of Medical Sciences was formally established in 2007. The School is currently developing a portfolio of teaching activities primarily in Medicine and Medical sciences. Though a new School, Medical Sciences is rapidly developing its research base and all staff took part in the 2008 RAE.
The School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences is a multidisciplinary department that is renowned for the quality of its teaching and research. The School has some of the world's leading researchers from across the UK and around the world. The School was rated as one of the top ten Sports Science Schools in the UK (RAE 2008) with 80% of research judged as either world leading or at an international level.
IMSCaR's role is that of a research institute responsible for rigorous and pragmatic Research and Development in health and social care - in North Wales, and across Wales and the United Kingdom.
Postgraduate study
The College has exceptionally high standards across a wide range of subjects, offering over 20 postgraduate taught and research degrees. These programmes focus on the main areas of research strength within the college and whichever course you choose you will be studying with some world-class academics and enjoying excellent facilities.
Internationally recognised

The College is key part of this overall success and in many cases outperforms the University's average position, for example the School of Psychology is ranked in the top 200.
Postgraduate scholarships
The College offers a variety of tailored postgraduate bursaries and scholarships throughout the year, allowing numerous opportunities for UK, EU and international students to partially or fully fund their postgraduate study. To celebrate the University's 125th anniversary in 2009, Bangor launched a five year programme of postgraduate expansion. This continues in 2010/11 with further scholarship and bursary opportunities to be announced.

The School of Psychology is rated as being in the top 7 U.K. psychology departments for research power; with more than double the national average of "World Leading" research output. Bangor Psychology's ranking as an elite department is underlined by its listing in the CHE European Excellence Ranking.
The School of Sports, Health & Exercise Sciences was placed in the top ten by the most Research Assessment Exercise with 80% of research being judged as either world leading or at an international level. The excellence in research feeds directly into taught postgraduate degrees or postgraduate study by research with students being taught and supported by the researchers who are driving the knowledge base in the subject areas they study.
Research within the School of Healthcare Sciences at Bangor University is based within the Centre for Health-Related Research (CHeRR) and the most recent RAE showed that their publications are internationally competitive in most areas, with some being world-leading and others of clear value within the UK context.. Established in 2006, the Centre is committed to the conduct of well-founded, scientific research in health and social care.
The recently established School of Medical Sciences is rapidly expanding the number and scope of its research active staff. The main aim of the School of Medical Sciences is to build on the biomedical research strengths of the university and, in collaboration with other academic departments, develop complementary programmes of translational and clinical research in line with national and local healthcare priorities, particularly in the areas of ageing, chronic disease, cardiovascular disease, cancer and mental health.
IMSCaR provides expertise in health economics, clinical trials and dementia care to the major collaborative programme of health-related research at Bangor, which spreads over several Colleges.
Facilities
Psychology staff and students have access to a large number of specialist research labs including a research dedicated 3T MRI scanner, TMS Labs, ERP, faraday cages, a brain anatomy laboratory, eye tracking facilities and an onsite nursery with observation facilities as well as dozens of computer based testing laboratories.
The School of Sports, Health & Exercise Sciences is well resourced for the scientific study of sport, health and exercise with an extensive range of laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment including a climate chamber, an underwater weighing lab, two dual energy X-Ray absorptiometry [DXA] scanners and a movement analysis lab. It is also able to offer fantastic access to a huge range of coast, river and mountain based activities.
The School of Healthcare Sciences focuses on national and international, multi-professional research in two broad areas being policy-driven research into assessment and care management; carers; and language and cultural awareness. The other main area is patient-centred health services research into clinical practice, knowledge transfer and utilisation; patient, child and family perspectives; and service delivery and organisation. The School has excellent links with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, which is one of the largest in the UK.
