The Department

Birmingham City University's School of Computing, Telecommunications and Networks is recognised both nationally and internationally for the high quality of our teaching, research and extensive industry partnerships and is established as one of the leading academies for Apple, Microsoft and Cisco Systems.

We deliver computing-related courses designed to equip you with the skills demanded by industries and employers. These include computer science, software engineering, information systems, e-business technologies, electronics, embedded systems, web technologies, telecommunications, networking and computer forensics.

Postgraduate study

The school offers a range of postgraduate and professional development courses that are available either full time or part time. All courses lead to a full range of postgraduate qualifications including Certificates, Diplomas, Masters and Research degrees and Professional accreditation. Our courses are delivered using a range of key commercial software packages such as SAS, SAP, Cisco and Microsoft.

Postgraduate subjects include Computing, Business Computing, Computer Science and Data Networks and Security.

Collaboration with industry is at the heart of our teaching, enabling us to keep our courses relevant and up-to-date and putting our students in prime position for industrial placements, chances to contribute to real-life projects, and career opportunities.

Research

To complement our teaching, we are also involved with thriving research programmes that cover a wide range of interests, including language technology, cryptography, security, forensics, programming languages and advanced communications engineering and intelligent systems.
As a student at Birmingham City University, you can expect a wide-reaching education in computing and related areas that are supported by first-class staff, flexible teaching methods and close links with industry that give you the advantage in the workplace.

Facilities

Located in the prestigious £114m Millennium Point - City Centre Campus in the heart of Birmingham, we have fantastic facilities that support students from all levels of study including foundation, professional development short courses and postgraduate research courses.

Our well-equipped workshops and laboratories enhance students' educational experience, providing a bridge between theoretical learning and hands-on teaching to prepare them for a career in industry.
