The Department
Birmingham City University's School of Digital Media Technology offers technology-based multimedia courses, business services and research projects, in the areas of film, special effects and television production, sound and music, and games and multimedia technology.
The school has been awarded Skillset Media Academy status, in recognition of our work with industry as a centre of excellence in television and interactive media. We are continually committed to promoting the West Midlands screen and sound-based media industry and to increasing its capabilities by working closely and in conjunction with local businesses.
Postgraduate study
Collaboration with industry is at the heart of our teaching, enabling us to keep our courses relevant and up-to-date and putting our students in prime position for industrial placements, chances to contribute to real-life projects, and career opportunities.
Our courses are delivered on a full -time basis and are designed to equip you with the skills demanded by technical industries and employers. These include web technologies, sound engineering and media technology management.
Research
To complement our teaching, we are also involved with thriving research programmes that cover a wide range of interests, these include: Acoustics and Digital Music Processing, Digital Image and Video Processing, Animation and Virtual Environments, and Web and Social Media Technologies.

Facilities
Located in the prestigious £114m Millennium Point - City Centre Campus in the heart of Birmingham, we have fantastic facilities that support students from all levels of study including foundation, professional development short courses and postgraduate research courses.
With film and television studios, multi-track recording studios, post-production facilities, and several hundred multimedia stations, our facilities extend to an incredible 1200m2 of dedicated facilities, with further expansion planned for the near future.
These facilities enhance our students' educational experience, providing a bridge between theoretical learning and hands-on teaching to prepare them for a career in industry.
