The Department
Birmingham City University's School of Engineering, Design and Manufacturing Systems is a recognised leader in education, training and business solutions, offering a wide range of courses that benefit from active engagement with regional, national and international industry - giving students the best possible introduction to modern engineering.
The School is the first UK-based academy for PTC Inc - a major business software solutions provider to the US-Government and international business, this partnership allows our students to have access to industry-standard tools such as ProE. We are a lighthouse member of the SAP University Alliance Programme and are also working with leading international technology and engineering solution provider, Technosoft, providing our students with access to the latest industry-standard computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools.
Postgraduate study
Our postgraduate courses are available with a range of delivery options including full-time, part-time and distance learning. Combining courses with industry engagement has earned the schools courses accreditation by world-leading professional bodies, such as the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Chartered Institute for Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
Covering subjects such as Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Quality Management, Enterprise Systems Management, Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, all our courses are designed to equip students with the skills demanded by employers.
Research
To complement our teaching, we are actively engaged in research programmes that cover a wide range of interests, including; knowledge based engineering, low carbon technologies, automotive emission control, bio-energy development, and manufacturing systems development.

Facilities
Located in the prestigious £114m Millennium Point - City Centre Campus in the heart of Birmingham, we have fantastic facilities that support students from all levels of study including foundation, professional development short courses and postgraduate research courses.
Our well-equipped workshops and laboratories enhance students' educational experience, providing a bridge between theoretical learning and hands-on teaching to prepare them for a career in industry. Collaboration with industry is at the heart of our teaching, enabling us to keep our courses relevant and up-to-date and putting our students in prime position for industrial placements, chances to contribute to real-life projects, and career opportunities.
