Edge Hill's brand new Business School building was opened in January 2009. Set in the heart of the campus our state-of-the-art facility is a visible testament to how much we have developed in a short space of time. Within two years we have reviewed the whole of our curriculum, introduced a range of innovative new programmes, welcomed an increasing number of students from across the globe and enhanced our part-time provision for UK students.
The Business School is increasingly engaged with the business community and undertaking more research activity. This growth though will not change the fundamental professional, open and friendly nature of the school. The excellent working relationship which exists between staff and students is a feature we are determined to maintain and which is reflected in the excellent results in the National Student Survey. We will do our part to make sure that your time here is enjoyable and productive.
One of the unique attributes of the school is that it contains both Business and Computing. This means that, as well as providing programmes in these two disciplines, we can ensure that our computing students have a good understanding of the world of business and that our business students have an exposure to the many technological changes which impact on management.
Whether you are considering Edge Hill University as your study destination in the UK or thinking about attending in the evening on one of our part-time courses you will be joining a dynamic and supportive learning environment
Postgraduate study
Our postgraduate portfolio is reviewed annually to reflect the needs of business and technology change. Some programmes welcome applications from new graduates looking to acquire skills and knowledge in a new area of study or wanting to gain in-depth specialist knowledge in a subject related to their first degree, while others are specifically developed for graduates who have skills and knowledge as managers or computing and IT professionals and are looking to support their careers by updating their knowledge and applying postgraduate theory to their workplace
All our full-time postgraduate students are given the opportunity to take up a placement after the taught part of their programme and before their final research project. Placement opportunities are sourced by the Enterprise Co-ordinator in the School or students can find their own placement according to their area of interest. This is an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills to a real organization and graduate with a Masters degree and an employer's reference. We endeavour to match students to placements that are relevant to the kind of employment or research they are interested in pursuing after graduation.
In addition to student placements our employer engagement provides our students with real life assessments, commercial development of student projects, employer lectures and workshops, student company visits and research projects.
Research
Research in the Business School consists of individual scholars and small groups working on a range of projects within the areas of:
- Management, Accountancy, CSR and Globalisation,
- Distributed Systems, e-Government, Educational Software and use of VLEs and Web 2.0 as a tool for teaching and learning.
There are three main research groupings in the areas of Management, Computing and Information Systems and Pedagogy. Business School academics are actively involved in collaborative research projects, organising conferences, workshops and publish research in international journals.
The School also has a number of PhD students pursuing work in the areas of both management and computing and we are happy to discuss with interested applicants how we can support their own research.
