This site now unites the Business School’s world–class research, teaching and enterprise and innovation activities under one roof. The central location of this building consolidates the School’s first class reputation and provides opportunities to develop and strengthen relationships between staff and students, as well as facilitating collaborative links between the School and the wider business community.

Postgraduate study

Our degrees are popular and highly regarded, and the quality of our teaching is reflected in the high gradings awarded by the national Teaching Quality Assessment exercise .Programmes have a strong international focus and are constantly reviewed to ensure students are provided with the latest research knowledge and the best possible learning experience. Newcastle University is listed as one of the top 25 UK Universities (The Times Good University Guide 2012) and one of the top 200 Universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2011/2012).

Our MBA is accredited by both the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).

A number of our programmes provide students with work placement opportunities, transferable skills workshops and regular networking events. The University’s careers service has won several prestigious awards and the Business School focuses on student employability through international internships and placements. We have a dedicated placements officer and careers adviser who offer free one to one support and advice on career planning, CV writing, interview preparation and job search strategies.

Research

Academic staff are organised into four main subject groups; Business and Management, Economics, Finance and Accounting and Marketing. This grouping reflects the School’s research centres of expertise, which in turn informs teaching practice. Our lecturers are experts in their chosen specialty, research active and professionally recognised. We offer both PhD and MPhil degrees within a wide range of research areas in:

  • Accounting and finance
  • Economics
  • HRM and organisational studies
  • Innovation and enterprise
  • Marketing; and
  • Strategy and operations.

Facilities

Over the last decade Newcastle has been transformed into a vibrant and cosmopolitan city thanks to significant cultural investment and the development of world class facilities. The city enjoys excellent transport links, being well serviced by roads, rail and an international airport. London can be reached by train in less than three hours and Edinburgh in less than two. There are numerous direct flights from the airport to destinations within the UK, Europe and internationally. Newcastle has also been voted the best UK university city (MSN Travel, 2011).

The Business School has mirrored the investment into the city by providing state of the art facilities in all of the buildings where teaching takes places.

These include:

  • Six lecture theatres and over 21 teaching rooms located throughout our buildings, providing comfortable teaching and group study space;
  • A dedicated postgraduate lounge and MBA suite, providing a balanced mix of study space, coupled with relaxed area as for break-out sessions and informal networking;
  • Areas designed specifically for our undergraduate students to study or socialise in;
  • Wi-fi enabled connectivity throughout the new building; and
  • PC cluster suites with over 180 PCs.
