Postgraduate study
The Scott Sutherland School prides itself in the development of innovative courses that address the future needs of practice and which challenge out-moded conventions. This approach ensures a continual demand for its graduates across all sectors of the construction industry and built environment professions, locally, nationally and internationally. The provision of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in architecture, architectural technology, construction management and surveying, uniquely enables the School to tackle the future challenges for the built environment professions and the construction industry and thus create graduates who have a competitive edge in the market place. In a similar way, the primary focus of the School's research is on work which has a tangible application to the world of practice and industry, much of this reflecting the prevailing climate of inter-disciplinarily
Research
Research in architecture and the built environment at Robert Gordon University relates to national policy and social agendas and usually involves the solution of practical problems. There is a high degree of collaboration between disciplines, with industry and with professional and public bodies. Most research is based around the ‘Environments for People' Centre, with a focus on social, economic and physical resource sustainability and evaluation of the design of built environments in terms of their ability to meet the needs of people.

Join us at The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment and you'll benefit from purpose-built studio spaces and IT suites, as well as environmental and materials laboratories. There's a hand-tool workshop where you can learn and perfect techniques, with additional heavier tools also available at the nearby Gray's School of Art. Our library offers easy access to current and comprehensive collections of journals, reports and books, as well as all the electronic resources you'll need to learn experiment and share ideas.
