Staffordshire University Law School is one of the country's leading legal education providers. Established in 1992, following almost 25 years' expertise in law teaching, the School has received superb accreditations for the quality of its awards. Both the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Bar Standards Board (BSB) accredit our Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). The LPC was one of only a select few to be awarded the highest grade of ‘Excellent' from the Law Society under its former grading system and has secured the highest possible rating of ‘Commendable Practice' in all six areas of the course currently assessed by the SRA.
Many of our tutors are respected solicitors or barristers with strong links to legal practices and the judiciary. This leads to superb placement opportunities and high employability levels.
Students gain practical real-life experience, practice advocacy, engage in role-play, work in small firm-like groups, enter mooting competitions and learn to draft the documents they would expect to encounter in a legal environment.
Postgraduate study
The CPE/Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) also provides the award of LLB and is ideal for non-Law graduates and others with appropriate qualifications who would like a career in Law.
The Legal Practice Course offers a broad range of electives which equally prepares students intending to practise in either "City" type commercial practice or the traditional "High Street" practice. There is a supportive, friendly and approachable teaching environment and a strong system of pastoral care. Students have the opportunity to participate in the Street Law programme and a highly regarded mentoring scheme with local solicitors, geared towards supporting LPC students and their needs.
We have a LLM programme with named routes in legal practice, employment, environment, family, healthcare, human rights, international trade and commerce and international sports law.
All awards can be studied full or part-time. The LPC is also available by blended learning. And the LLM International sports law is available by online distance learning.
Research
A postgraduate MPhil/PhD by dissertation is also available.
