Anyone wondering where to study any of the programmes offered by the University of Greenwich's School of Architecture, Design & Construction would be hard-pressed to find a rival in London. Its international, cultural and educational strengths provide a rich environmental stimulus in which to study a variety of design-based and other built environment disciplines.
University staff regularly visit the Far East and have close contacts with many universities and colleges. Professional activities include research and consultancy for industry. Through such links, students can be sure not only that their qualifications are of a high quality but that they also reflect the needs of their local business. In keeping with the close association students develop with the university, there is a thriving Malaysian Students' Society and a Hong Kong branch of the Alumni Association. Indeed, students from the Far East have their own award ceremonies in Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Postgraduate study
The programmes we run open doors to a wide range of exciting and creative careers. Most are related to the design and construction industries: landscape, architecture, graphics, building, real estate and urban design. Most programmes can be taken full-time or part-time. Some are available in distance learning mode and students can switch their mode of study to suit their circumstances.
Most of our programmes are accredited by, and lead to membership of, the relevant professional bodies. These include the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Architects Registration Board (ARB), the Landscape Institute (LI), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Research
We blend teaching with research and consultancy to ensure that academic programmes are up-to-date and linked to the professions they serve. The School is committed to pure research and also to applied research in collaboration with professional bodies, industry and public sector organisations.
The School's research effort is focused on making contributions to the solving of real-world problems or the advancement of issues that have a direct bearing on business, industry, regional, national and international communities and, ultimately, peoples' lives. The research strategies are based around sustainable environments, sustainable buildings and design.
Facilities
Currently situated on the Avery Hill campus's Mansion site, facilities include a digital design studio with state of the art graphic design and 3d animation software, specialist photographic facilities as well as a TV studio and model workshop. The Avery Hill Campus consists of two sites, Mansion Site and Southwood Site, both of which are located in the 86-acre Avery Hill Park in Eltham, south-east London. Only a few minutes' walk apart, these two Victorian sites house some of the best teaching, living and sporting facilities.
The University of Greenwich is investing in the multi-million pound development of a new building in Stockwell Street, Greenwich which is due to open in 2013. The School of Architecture, Design & Construction will be housed here.
