Bath Spa University
Bath Spa University places great emphasis on teaching quality, and our research and scholarly activity is of direct benefit to students, underpinning the curriculum and improving the student experience. Whether you're looking to improve your career prospects or wish to explore a subject you feel passionately about for personal enjoyment, we promise you high quality teaching and research supervision. Bath Spa University is an expanding institution with a unique study and social environment which is a key factor in our distinctiveness and popularity.
Our staff care about their students. They are accessible, supportive and passionate about their subjects, and they put a lot of effort into developing dynamic approaches to teaching and assessment. They undertake what we call ‘teaching-led research'. That means they're actively engaged in research and scholarship so that their professional and academic expertise is current, and often cutting edge - but the research is of direct benefit to you.
We have exceptionally beautiful campuses that provide a truly inspirational setting in which to study. All are well equipped with state-of-the-art modern facilities alongside historic buildings to meet your academic, social and cultural needs. Staff and students at Bath Spa share a strong environmental ethos, partly in response to our unique campuses that we're looking after for future generations, but also to make sure that we minimise our impact on the environment. Bath Spa has achieved the Gold Award under the national EcoCampus scheme and is ranked 11th out of 133 UK universities in the People and Planet Green League 2010 for its environmental policy and performance.

There is a lively research environment at Bath Spa, with opportunities for supervised, original research leading to the degrees of MPhil and PhD. The University has research activity across all of its academic schools with particular strengths, as measured in the independent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), in Art and Design, English and Creative Writing, History, Music, and Psychology. The University is big enough to offer variety and diversity; yet small enough for a personal approach. There is space to think, create and move forward. There is also the opportunity to work with academics who are not just authoritative, but also passionate about their subject.
Our Art and Design campus at Sion Hill has recently undergone major re-development and now has some of the best facilities and equipment in the country. There are proposals for a major development of the Newton Park campus starting in 2012 (subject to planning approval). The enhanced academic facilities, social amenities and additional student accommodation on campus will be sustainable and innovative, whilst blending sympathetically with the unique and historic setting. We put a lot of effort into helping postgraduate students get the most from their studies. The University has modern, well equipped libraries and IT suites, designated study areas, and an online virtual learning environment. There is also a postgraduate study room comprising open access computing, research workshop and seminar space and an informal social area.
