Bournemouth University
BU is a vibrant, dynamic and innovative institution and over 17,000 students choose to study with us each year. Of these, more that 1,500 are international students from nearly 130 countries, creating a lively and diverse culture.
We are based on two campuses, Talbot Campus and Lansdowne Campus. Lansdowne Campus is close to Bournemouth town centre, while Talbot Campus is 3km away, on the border with Poole. Bournemouth and Poole are student-friendly towns sandwiched between the New Forest, some of Britain’s best beaches and Poole Harbour with its unmatched sailing and watersports facilities as well as cultural, artistic and social opportunities.
BU is divided into six distinctive Academic Schools, reflecting major areas of economic growth in the world today:
- School of Applied Sciences

If you’re looking for a new challenge, want to enhance your employability or simply wish to change career direction but don’t know how, then studying for a Masters degree at BU is an excellent way to focus on your career. All our courses are geared towards developing professional, global and highly desirable experts of the future. As such, you will uplift your skills, develop transferable knowledge and gain industry accreditation.
Research is a vital component for underpinning a high-quality curriculum and for maximising our contribution to regional and national economies.
Our research offering is amongst the best in the country. In the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), eight of our ten areas of research were listed as ‘world leading’.
Building on our research strengths and research potential, we have several Research Centres, focused on specific areas of interest, already gaining national and international recognition. A dynamic research culture demands the exchange of ideas and, as a BU postgraduate student, you will benefit from being a part of this intellectually stimulating debate.
As well as offering modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms, dedicated laboratories and 24 hour open access computing centres, our specialised academic resources reflect our commitment to first-class resources.
These include: purpose-built studios for computer animation and digital special effects, recording studios, editing suites and a HD Sony television studio, Rapid Prototyping Suite, Virtual Manufacture Centre and Rose Cottage, a unique ‘crime house’ available to forensic students.
Our impressive Executive Business Centre is home to many of our business and management courses, including the Bournemouth MBA. This Centre is not just about offering high-spec lecture theatres, a contemporary e-library or the latest interactive technologies. It also breaks the barrier between the traditional university experience and working within a genuine business environment.
It is a hub for expertise, information and consultancy, available to hundreds of businesses across the South of England. What better place to learn that where business itself is happening?
Our library service is a leader in the provision of electronic information and its integration into the fast-growing Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), a website giving you access to learning materials, email and discussion groups. It is also accessible externally, off campus.
