Edge Hill University
Edge Hill has been providing higher education for 125 years, based on an ethos of opportunity through excellence.
Originally welcoming 41 students to Liverpool in 1885, over 24,000 are now enrolled on Edge Hill University's courses, enjoying a unique, high quality and inclusive university experience.
Offering over 200 degree routes in award-winning campus environment and developing professionals throughout the UK and overseas, it is the University of Choice for 23,000 students.
Edge Hill University, with its 125-year history, offers a range of taught programmes, research degrees and professional development opportunities which enable individuals to plan their education needs and career development.
Innovative study methods, flexible study patterns and a high regard for individual choice enable our students to identify and fulfill their long-term goals, whatever their circumstances, and become dynamic, successful individuals ready to lead the way in their chosen career.
In recent years, it has been recognized that knowledge is increasingly being constructed across academic disciplines rather than just within them, and social problems frequently require addressing by drawing on a multi-disciplinary base.
Our response to these developments has been to establish Research Centres which draw on expertise from across the University and provide a base in which visiting academics and professionals can work.
These Centres are:
- ASK YOUTH: Centre for Research with Children and Young People
- Centre for Learning and Teaching Research (CLTR)
- Centre for Learner Identity Studies (CLIS)
- Centre for Local Policy Studies (CLPS)
- Centre for Research in Ethics and Ethical Deliberation (CREED)
- Evidence-based Practice Research Centre (EPRC)
- Centre for Sports Law Research (CSLR)
- Widening Participation Research Centre (WPRC).
Edge Hill also invite prepared and qualified individuals to study for research degrees, either and MPhil or a PHD. These qualifications are awarded to students who have completed individual programmes of research and written a thesis reporting the results of that research. Topics for study may result from personal interest, an area of study related to an earlier qualification or it may be an issue an employer would like you to investigate in depth and over a longer period of time.
Edge Hill University's Ormskirk Campus is a unique and amazing place to study. Covering 160 acres, the spacious, landscaped grounds combine original buildings and gardens from the 1930s with over £105m million of modern resources and 25 acres of sporting leisure facilities.
Industry standard resources and cutting edge technology combine to make a truly interactive teaching and learning environment, complemented by 25 acres of sport and leisure facilities, over 1,000 rooms in halls of residence by September 2010 and a welcoming atmosphere.
As well as the main Ormskirk site, we offer a range of courses at a network of outreach centres and partner colleges across the North West of England and beyond. This gives you the opportunity to study an Edge Hill University programme close to where you live but still enjoy access to all our great facilities.
