The University of Sheffield's history stretches back to 1828 when the Sheffield School of Medicine was founded and its University Charter was granted in 1905 it now holds a charitable status as an Exempt University.
University guides confirm its position as one of the UK's leading universities and it boasts a reputation as a centre for world class research in a multitude of disciplines. The University has many notable research clients including Rolls Royce, Unilever and Boeing. As part of the White Rose Consortium with both Leeds and York Universities it has research power to rival Oxford and Cambridge.
