Gay by Degree
How well has your university faired in LGB (lesbian, gay and bisexual) charity and campaigning group Stonewall's guide for students? Choosing a university where you'll feel happy and comfortable being yourself is clearly just as important a consideration when choosing a place for postgraduate studies as it is for undergraduate studies.
Stonewall identified a number of criteria to judge how positive an experience universities would offer LGB students. Amongst other things, points were given for having a student lesbian, gay and bisexual society, welfare provisions, careers advice, clued up staff and policies to protect lesbian, gay and bisexual students from bullying.
Topping the 2012 guide were Imperial College, UCL, Wolverhampton and Portsmouth scoring top marks against all the criteria set by Stonewall.
While the guide is aimed at undergraduates, it has some useful advice and links for anyone choosing a university regardless of level, including links to societies, alternative city guides and a plethora of other useful gems like anecdotes from current alumni.
