Why study advertising, marketing and PR at postgraduate level?
xWhile postgraduate study is not essential for careers in advertising, marketing or PR, it can be a great opportunity to foster specific skills, build confidence and develop an edge over the competition in these popular sectors.
Aside from the variety of masters courses offered by UK universities in advertising, marketing and PR, there are also several professional bodies with their own professional qualifications. The Chartered Institute of Marketing, for example, has the Professional Certificate and Professional Diploma in Marketing, while the Chartered Institute of Public Relations offers an Advanced Certificate in PR. Other bodies deliver a host of industry-recognised short courses.
While research qualifications are less prominent in this largely vocational study area, there are some research options available. You might choose a research masters or doctorate in public relations and communications, or embark on a research project investigating market trends or the affects of advertising. These self-taught courses are best suited to highly motivated individuals wanting to pursue an academic career.
